Neuralangelo: NVIDIA’s new AI model for 3D modeling 👩‍🎨

First of all, we all love the name - right?

Second of all, Neuralangelo, the newest AI model from NVIDIA basically built a better version of photogrammetry (what is photogrammetry on this link).

This model can turn 2D video clips into detailed 3D graphics structures.

It can fully replicate buildings, sculptures, or other real-world objects — using clips recorded with your mobile device or even drones 👇🏻

How does it work?

A 2D video of a given object is analyzed by the model to learn about its depth, size, and shape.

The AI then acts like a “virtual sculptor”, and first it creates a rough 3D scene, and then adds more details until it replicates the whole thing.

Just like a sculptor slowly shaping a block, piece by piece.

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON

🏋🏻‍♀️ Sam talked about OpenAI’s current challenges & near-term roadmap. They are heavily GPU limited at present, and say that Plugins still don’t have PMF (Product Market Fit).

The focus for the future is on:

• Cheaper and faster GPT-4 — This is their top priority.

• Longer context windows — As high as 1 million tokens are plausible. (Damn, that’s a lot).

• A stateful API - An API that will remember your conversation with ChatGPT.

🔥 AI Tool fast-tracked new customer service agents to six-month experience. Researchers from the National Bureau of Economic Researchers researched the impact of AI on productivity for roughly 5,000 agents in Fortune 500 companies. Specifically, the customer service tool helped agents to spend about 9 percent less time per chat, handling about 14 percent more chats per hour.

👀 Character.ai tops 1.7M installs in one week. I guess, customized AI companions with distinct personalities are definitely hitting the high note. Plus, the founders are well known - they both led the research team at Google that built LaMDA. Kaching!
