Jina AI released an 8K Embedding model that is similar to OpenAI's Ada model.

Embeddings are a way to turn words, phrases, or other types of data into numbers. When this data is turned into numbers, computers can more easily compare them, sort them, or find patterns.

Most of the Chat with {your-data} tools are powered by embeddings.

Today, we get a new embedding model called jina-embedding-v2.

This model can take up to 8K tokens in the prompt, is open-sourced and it will give you similar results to OpenAI’s text-embedding-ada-002.

Availability

They released two models:

1. Base model: Designed for heavy-duty tasks that require higher accuracy (like business analytics)

2. Small model: Designed for lightweight apps

API is coming

The team is creating a platform similar to OpenAI's embeddings API. It will make it simple for you to connect your app with the model.

🚨 What else is going on

• Google to invest $2B to OpenAI’s competitor Anthropic. The startup raised $450M in May of this year, and up to $4B from Amazon in September. This deal still doesn’t match the $13B MSFT investment in OpenAI.

• Bill Gates feels Generative AI has plateaued, says GPT-5 will not be any better

• Seems like AI wrappers are slowly squeezed out of the market. OpenAI launched it’s own Chat-with-Docs/PDF feature inside ChatGPT. Spooky! 👻
