New open-sourced language model: StableLM 🛡

StabilityAI, known for its image model "Stable Diffusion", has joined the language model scene!

They released StableLM - a suite of language models. The ones that are currently available are with 3B and 7B parameters. 15B and 30B models are coming soon.

You can use these models for both research & commercial use!

And they’re open-sourced! 

For real, this time.

But is it better than GPT-4?

We still don’t know.

There is no technical report & comparison data.

But it sure is interesting that their models are trained on fewer parameters (3B to 30B parameters), whereas in comparison GPT-4 is trained on 175B+ parameters — and they still claim high performance in conversational and coding tasks.

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON

🦙 Google Brain and DeepMind just merged to form one team. They’re merging their talent & resources into one team and they’re calling it Google DeepMind. Should be interesting to see what they whip up next.

🏋🏻‍♀️  Reddit and StackOverflow will charge AI companies for training data. The content on their websites is very conversational, human, and natural and that is the diversity in data that LLMs thrive off. So, it kinda makes sense, right? Reddit’s announcement is here.

👀 Magazine fakes an interview with Michaels Schumacher. A German magazine published a fake interview with Michael Schumacher and didn’t disclose that it was AI-generated. The family is planning to take legal action, as they should in this case (in my opinion).
