Gemini: New Model by DeepMind that might be better than GPT-4

In 2016, an artificial intelligence program called AlphaGo from Google’s DeepMind AI lab made history by defeating a champion player of the board game Go.

Now, DeepMind is utilizing the techniques used in AlphaGo, to create a language model that’s better than ChatGPT.

Enter, Gemini

These techniques might mimic some features of today’s autonomous agents, like planning or the ability to solve problems (Something that GPT-4 lacks today).

The system is called Gemini, and is still in development, and it will take a few more months and hundreds of millions of dollars until it’s launched.

New capabilities

Their team also has experience with building autonomous robots, like RoboCat, which can solve tasks and manipulate objects. If Gemini can learn from reinforcement learning (like ChatGPT does) and the behavior of these robots, we might see new capabilities that seem very futuristic today.

As a reminder, Google acquired DeemMind in 2014 for $500 million and it might pan out to be their best investment to date.
