The "Ai pin"

PLUS: Build your own image search engine

Hi folks!👋🏻 This is The Prompt! We're your go-to source for all things AI.

Let's see what’s new

FEATURED

The “Ai pin” by Humane is coming this year

Humane, a company started by ex-Apple employees, revealed that their first gadget will be called the “Ai pin”.

This gadget can project an interactive interface onto nearby surfaces, such as the user's hand or a table.

This device is AI-first, but it’s weird why the “i” in the name is not capitalized.

Should we pronounce it like “eye”?

Everything about this device is still very mysterious.

NEW TECH

Your own image search engine

There's a new idea on the block, it's called user-side search systems.

Basically, it lets you build your own personal search system that works just the way you want.

Sounds cool, right?

It is an image search engine, but it doesn't rely on a backend server, doesn't store images, and doesn't build search indices, which are usually necessary for traditional search algorithms.

How to try it

You can try a demo of this search engine that is connected to Flikr. You just upload an image, and then CLEAR retrieves similar images from Flickr.

Or, you can set up your own CLEAR - here’s the repo for that.

Is it useful?

Despite being new and quite interesting, the main argument is that it’s not really useful. The tech relies on new types of tech like embeddings that power AI systems, but in the end, it just runs search queries via APIs.

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON

🦙 An AI tool that can speed up dementia diagnosis.CognoSpeak has a virtual character that engages a patient in a conversation and asks memory-related questions. Their test achieved a 90% accuracy rate in early trials.

👀 Y Combinator’s Latest Batch Is 35% AI Startups. They received 24,000 applications and accepted less than 1% of those. YC is a trend-setter, and their portfolio of companies from 2022-2023 should be a good signal on what kind of tools will set the industry.

🏋🏻‍♀️  US company is hiring an AI editor and expects 200-250 articles per week. Google Search's recent report on AI-generated articles suggests, and I directly quote, that there will be "a reward for high-quality content, no matter the method of production." As such, we can expect an increase in related job roles because AI-produced content is here to stay.
