AI can steal your passwords by listening to your keyboard

Are you one of those people who cover their webcam?

Well, now you might need to type quieter as well.

Researchers from Berlin created a state-of-the-art deep learning model that can identify what you type, just by listening to your keyboard. 😅

How does it work?

The research paper talks about "acoustic side-channel attacks." This is when someone uses a device like a phone near a laptop or an open microphone on video calls to record typing sounds.

They can then use AI to figure out what keys were pressed and learn what was typed.

The results?

In this experiment, the integrated microphone listened to keystrokes on a MacBook Pro and could reproduce them with 95% accuracy.

And 93% during a Zoom call and 91.5% on Skype.

• New research shows that major AI models have a political bias. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is identified as left-wing libertarian, and Meta’s LLaMA model as right-wing authoritarian.
